Find Lincoln County Traffic Tickets

Start a Lincoln County traffic ticket search by figuring out which court issued it. Circuit traffic and forfeiture cases live with the county clerk and the statewide case index. Merrill and Tomahawk municipal tickets belong to the joint Municipal Court. A docket entry can show the citation, the plea, the next setting, and payments, but the driver record sits with a separate state agency. Search Lincoln County traffic court records with the case or citation number, confirm any court date with the right clerk, and pay or plead only through the channel printed for that court.

Lincoln County Traffic Court Records

Case numbers tell you where to look. TR covers traffic in Lincoln County circuit cases. FO marks forfeiture. CT marks criminal traffic. Anything on a Merrill or Tomahawk city citation stays with the joint municipal court instead. Before any docket search, read three things. Check the issuing agency, the court name, and the case number. That quick check avoids the most common routing mistake.

What can you see once you land in the right place? A circuit entry may list the charge and the plea. It may also show scheduled hearings, the judgment, any forfeiture, payment status, and appeals. WCCA supplies the public index. The Lincoln County Clerk of Circuit Court holds the file and sells plain or certified copies. Municipal records sit with the joint court unless an appeal opens a circuit case.

PLC 2041 and PLC 1469

There is no single payment code here. County traffic tickets run through GovPayNow PLC 2041, while Merrill and Tomahawk municipal citations use PLC 1469. Each vendor path may add a service fee. Neither one doubles as a docket database.

Citation Custodian Payment path
Lincoln County circuit TR, FO, or CT Lincoln County Clerk of Circuit Court County GovPayNow, PLC 2041
Merrill city ordinance or traffic Joint municipal court Municipal GovPayNow, PLC 1469
Tomahawk city ordinance or traffic Joint municipal court Municipal GovPayNow, PLC 1469

Paying is not the same as pleading not guilty, ordering a copy, or proving the court entered a disposition. Save your confirmation number. Then check the docket separately.

Looking Up a Lincoln Traffic Ticket

Lincoln County posts no citation-number search form of its own beyond the payment screen. For a circuit case, run the exact Wisconsin case number and Lincoln County through WCCA. The number may fail. Try a party name with the county and traffic case type instead. Municipal citations are different. Call the joint clerk at (715) 539-3714 with the citation number, issue date, issuing city, and appearance date.

Field Why it matters
Citation or case number Best identifier for the court record and payment.
Issuing agency Separates city, county, DNR, and other citations.
Name and issue date Helps the clerk distinguish similar or new matters.
Court or municipality Determines WCCA, PLC 2041, or PLC 1469.
Appearance instruction Shows whether a personal appearance or written response is required.

Circuit questions about traffic, small claims, or DNR go to Katie Kroening at (715) 536-0302. The clerk fax is (715) 536-0361. Walk in at Suite 205, 1110 E. Main St., Merrill, or mail the same address.

Lincoln County Payment Route

The county payment page separates circuit and municipal routes.

Getting the court right is part of the record search itself. A payment routed to the wrong office may never clear the citation. The county GovPayNow page handles the PLC 2041 transaction.

Use it only after the court and amount match the ticket or current clerk instruction.

How to Find Your Traffic Court Date

For circuit traffic, the settings block on WCCA is your public source for hearing dates. Copy each field and trust the newest entry. A listed date can still be reset, continued, or cancelled. The county publishes no stable daily calendar page. The clerk remains the fallback for confirming an appearance.

Case number Lincoln County TR, FO, or CT identifier
Date and time The current setting, subject to later court action.
Location Courtroom or courthouse location shown for the event.
Activity Initial appearance, pretrial, status, trial, or another setting.
Court official Judge or assigned branch when displayed.

Municipal appearances usually fall on Mondays. Juveniles come at 10:00 a.m., adults at 10:30 a.m., and pretrial or status matters at 10:45 a.m. Tomahawk police citations run on a third-Monday monthly session. These are standing patterns only; the ticket and current clerk notice control.

Joint Municipal Traffic Records

The joint Merrill and Tomahawk Municipal Court page names the shared court and its sessions.

Joint Merrill and Tomahawk Municipal Court schedule and contact information

The joint setup does not fold city citations into Lincoln County Circuit Court records. Each city keeps its own session location, with a shared clerk and payment route.

Pay or Contest a Ticket

Read the appearance paragraph on the ticket first. Lincoln County allows a written not-guilty plea before the appearance date when showing up in person is not mandatory, and a timely plea leads to trial scheduling. Skip the plea and the appearance when one is required, though, and the court can enter default judgment on the citation alone.

Pay Contest
Use the issuing court's approved in-person, mail, or vendor route. Submit the not-guilty plea to the issuing court as its instructions require.
Verify the court, amount, deadline, and case identifier first. Keep proof of delivery and obtain the new trial or pretrial setting.
A vendor receipt documents a transaction, not a certified disposition. Check the docket and clerk notice for later changes.

Missed date or payment: Default judgment and a payment deadline can follow. Municipal nonpayment may also lead to collection action, tax-refund intercept, driving-privilege suspension, added costs, or a writ, depending on the judgment.

Call the issuing court right away. A vendor payment does not cure a missed appearance, and not every listed consequence fits every citation.

Lincoln Traffic Flow by the Numbers

The 2024 circuit clearance report counted 2,068 incoming traffic and forfeiture events, 2,072 outgoing, and 172 still pending at year end. Total clearance hit 100 percent. Contested traffic cleared at 104 percent, uncontested traffic at 100 percent, contested forfeiture at 83 percent, and uncontested forfeiture at 100 percent.

2,068incoming events
2,072outgoing events
172ending pending

These are administrative circuit events, not municipal ticket counts and not outcomes. A rate over 100 percent simply means the court cleared older pending or reactivated matters.

Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record

Two offices keep two files. The court docket answers what happened to the citation. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and DMV keep the separate licensing record. Neither one replaces the other.

Court record Driver record
Kept by Circuit or municipal court clerk Wisconsin DOT/DMV
Shows Citation, plea, settings, judgment, forfeiture, and payment activity State licensing information and reported driving history
How obtained WCCA and clerk request, or municipal clerk Wisconsin DOT/DMV request process

A WCCA result is not a driver record. A payment receipt is not a certified disposition. For formal proof of a circuit result, use the Lincoln County court record search to find the entry and order the proper copy.

Lincoln Traffic Copies and Fees

Copies of a Lincoln County traffic record cost $1.25 per page through the circuit clerk. Want it certified? That service adds $5 to the page charge. For a municipal ticket, ask the Merrill or Tomahawk clerk directly how it handles copies and certification. Neither city posts a separate online certified-copy form for traffic cases.

Item Fee or action Note
Ordinary circuit copy $1.25 per page Identify the case and docket item.
Certified circuit copy $5 plus $1.25 per page Confirm total with the clerk.
Municipal record Ask joint clerk Use citation number and session date.

Any service fee on a payment portal covers the transaction alone, so confirm the record, the office holding it, and how it will reach you before you pay.

Lincoln Written Plea Route

Got a county citation that does not force you to show up? The official traffic instructions let you mail in a written not-guilty plea. Send it ahead of the appearance date. It goes straight to the issuing court. Hold onto proof of delivery, and wait for the trial notice that follows. A payment vendor cannot carry that plea for you. The ticket may demand an appearance. Do what it says, or ask the clerk which court action fits.

Municipal cases run on their own track. The joint clerk walks you through plea options. That happens at the initial appearance. The clerk schedules the next hearing once you contest a charge. Merrill and Tomahawk sit inside Lincoln County. That does not mean their filings belong at the county court.

Lincoln Traffic Defaults Need Confirmation

Skip a required response in Lincoln County. Skip a court appearance. The traffic case can then end in a default judgment. The county page gives you 60 days to pay. Municipal procedure adds more tools that may follow if the bill goes unpaid. Treat the two tracks as separate. One phone call clears it up. Contact the court named on the judgment. Give the case number. Ask what is still owed and what options remain.

Paying later does not wipe away every consequence or reopen a judgment by itself. Save written proof of the transaction. Then check the court record again once the payment posts. See what the docket now shows.

Lincoln Citation Numbers as Routing Clues

Copy a citation number exactly as it appears on the ticket or the court notice. No guessing. A Lincoln County circuit case in WCCA also carries a class code. Codes include TR, FO, or CT. TR and FO usually point to the traffic and forfeiture desk. CT means criminal traffic, and that class can move through criminal procedure. The code alone never tells the whole story of a charge. It just tells you which public index to try first. It also points to the clerk desk for a docket search.

When a payment system rejects your identifier, resist the urge to change digits. Do not keep guessing until something goes through. Instead, compare the issuing court, the PLC, the name, and the citation date. A rejection can mean the case sits on the other payment path. It may not have posted yet, or it may need a clerk's eyes. Call the court with the original paper in hand.

Lincoln Municipal Appeals Change Systems

A municipal decision from Merrill or Tomahawk can be appealed into Lincoln County Circuit Court. The joint court's trial tips call for a written notice. They also require an appeal fee within 20 days of the decision. Verify that deadline and the accepted filing method with the municipal clerk. One late or incomplete step can put the whole appeal at risk.

Once the circuit appeal is filed, it lands in a county court record. You can search that record through WCCA. Hold onto the municipal citation number and the decision date. Keep the appeal papers, the payment receipt, and the circuit case number too. The city clerk keeps the original municipal record; the county clerk keeps the appeal. To follow the full history of the case, you may need to request files from both.

For any Lincoln County citation, the issuing court's current notice controls over a saved web page, old payment screen, or recalled date.
